[4/15] - Is is the airport in Amsterdam or a bar in the Carribean? You be the judge!

We came in April from far away lands,
Arriving by air to Indian sands.
Friends and colleagues and some family,
Thinking of Bafna and Khajanchi
|
| |
We landed in Delhi, and took in the sight
And felt the heat sizzle in the steamy Delhi night.
A brief rest followed, and what do you know,
Back on a plane, we were supposed to go!

|
Our next stop was Jaipur, the pink city of fame,
And from there by bus 'til we finally came,
Through the Thar Desert dunes to see our old friend.
And Bisleri had become our new god by then!
|
|
At last we reached Bikaner, Shweta and Amit.
And the hotel that we came to was an instant hit.
A majestic building, it took our breath away,
It promised a pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Listen to the real version of this song to get Amit's crazed howlings out of your head!

For the wedding's first event, we drove out at night
To Gajner Palace, which was quite a sight!
A party was held for the two guests of honor.
Where Shweta learned Amit's singing was a horror.

By now some of us were thoroughly ill,
We had risked our health as we ate our fill,
A standard intitiation, as most of us found
While we ran for the bathroom or shuffled around.

[4/17] - sightseeing at the fort
that afternoon after the sightseeing
camel ride
|
The next day was spent seeing sights around town,
Traveling by Rickshaw as the sun beat down.
In late afternoon, we tried something new.
On camelback we took in the desert view.
|
|
Back home we trekked for a late evening feast,
Where we danced with sticks and ate like beasts.
The revelries ended, we returned to our beds,
With visions of the wedding dancing in our heads.
|
[4/18] - in the morning
sightseeing
at the house before the parade
|
The day before the wedding the ceremonies went on,
While we mingled with rats and rang temple gongs.
The afternoon sun ushered in the parade,
To begin the wedding for which we had prayed.
|
|
Amit arrived looking like an Indian knight,
On a horse that we thought was supposed to be white.
To become a husband, he first had to ride
To the main wedding place, to await his bride.
|
|
Before long Shweta came, dressed in pink and gold
To the joy of all who watched, both young and old.
A great dinner was laid for guest and kin.
For it would be hours 'til the wedding would begin.
|
|
But at 3:00 in the morning, without further ado.
They both said in Hindi, something close to "I do".
They exchanged their vows as night turned to day
And that pretty much sums up all there is to say.

The final reception, was on the next day
The perfect event to round out our stay
The bagpipes provided a musical treat,
And the food was so good that we just had to eat.
|
[4/20] - hanging out
[4/22] - No trip to India is complete without a visit to the Taj Mahjal...
|
We said our good-byes to Khajanchi and son
As we went our separate ways to have some fun.
And while some saw the Taj and others the police,
We thanked the new couple and wished them love and peace.
