| December 9, 2006 - Women are from Venus and men are from a place that's *soo* much farther away |
|
It absolutely boggles my mind how two people can look at the same thing and yet fixate on *completely* different aspects of it.
The best are the ads in these women's magazines (and just for the record, this is something that I have only been exposed to since marriage!). The following is a representative sample, but there are tons like it... take a look:
Take a quick look at this ad... now do a gut check... what is the first thing that you focused on? If you are a woman, you likely would have said the purse. Seriously guys, the women are looking at the *purse*. When my wife tried to point out the purse to *me* the first time, I stared blankly at her, "Purse, what purse? Oh you mean that thing blocking the naked chick!" |
| December 8, 2006 - Brrr... |
Ok, yes it's November, but dammit I live in California and I don't have to deal with frost and snow. Or if I deal with it, it's only at a time and place of my choosing, I don't want it thrust upon me. Yes, it's pathetic, but what can I say... I've grown soft here...
That being said, I am pretty freaking proud of myself for having a frost scraper in my trunk ready for the occasion! |
| November 19, 2006 - Dumbest company of the *decade*!! |
Just cleaning out some old papers, came across this note we got in our apartment this past summer:
This is a note telling me that over ten years after the fact, Comcast has *FINALLY* come to the realization that they were giving me cable service that I did not order. TEN years! Ten YEARS! Ten EFF-ING years!!! In related news... |
| Friday the 13th - On going back to school... |
| Yep, this sums up remarkably well why I went back to school... [3MB mpeg] |
| October 10, 2006 - GoogTube |
| Well I guess the answer to my question below, how YouTube will stay in business, has been answered. I guess this makes sense... instead of being the only unit that doesn't make any money in a company, YouTube will now be one of many units that doesn't make any money... |
| September 30, 2006 - Is *this* the future of internet TV?? |
Some things I have learned after playing around on YouTube for a bit:
|
| September 23, 2006 - Rip his leg off and beat him with the bloody stump! |
|
I just got back from today's Stanford football game... maan we suck!! I began wondering, is it too much to ask to live in a place where I can feel hopeful rooting for the home team???
Reviewing my life from a football point of view, is really quite sad... I did my undergrad at Tufts University - Tufts football is not only a division 3 team but a bad division 3 team. Then I moved to San Francisco, several years too late to enjoy the Montana/Young dynasty but just in time to enjoy the 49ers sucking it up for the the next 10 years. And lest I forget the year I spent in Canada - three words about that... Canadian Football League - 'nuff said! Now I am at Stanford where the biggest cheers I heard from the crowd was for the lousy field goal we scored near half time (and towards the end of the game, the visitors cheers were beginning to drown out ours!). |
| September 15, 2006 - This rest stop cracks me up |
Ok, at the same rest stop as the previous post is the following sign:
Dude, this guy is 118 years old!! *<:) |
| September 15, 2006 - Has the ADA been taken too far? |
I did a doubletake when I saw this at a rest stop off of I-10 in Arizona. At the risk of sounding like a completely insensitive ass, is the population of handicap truckers so large that they deserve a dedicated spot at a rest stop??
I think I am struck because I have never seen this before, and I've been to my fair share of rest stops... *ADA=Americans with Disailities Act |
| September 13, 2006 - (way) south of the border |
| Yayyy! I just saw that I got my first hit from South America on the ClustrMap in the previous post. |
| May 17, 2006 - Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego |
|
|
| April 23, 2006 - Let's sexualize the world! |
|
For those of you that remember Mahir, the Turkish stud, one of my study groupmates has pointed me towards another visionary in the same vein.
It would be easy to dismiss Günther and his quest to "sexualize the world" as childish teen-fantasy drivel, but to do so would be to overlook the true brilliance that is Günther. I urge you to check out his videos immediately... the classic is the Ding Dong Song but Tutti Frutti Summerlove is creeping up as my personal favorite (there is nothing more than a strong PG-13 rating there, but probably still not the best thing to pull up at work ;). The gratuitous use of white boy-shorts and creative use of fruit (bananas and melons of course) juxtaposed against insightful lyrics such as "honey, you're so cute, this is the land of bitter fruit. Bananas, melones, yeah!" showcase the true brilliance of Günther. And really, most importantly, how can you resist the sexual dynamo that is *Günther*!
Go to Gunthernet.com and click on "Video" to find out why, when you thought Sweden could do no more damage to the world music scene than Ace of Base, you were horribly horribly wrong... |
| March 30, 2006 - Funny Names II |
| Never mind, I figured it out... |
| March 29, 2006 - Funny Names |
|
So the other day, Mumtaz brings home a flyer or something with the name "Vanderdonk" on it. I remember thinking "that is a really funny name." It stuck in my head... after a couple of days, it would just pop up randomly... ...and Bendix managed the growth of the new division to produce electronic fuel injectors by hiring... Vanderdonk...???
Well after a week or so, it started to morph, Vanderdonk became Vanderhouse... and that triggered a brain spasm... it reminded me of another funny name that I had heard of but *just* couldn't place... Vanderhouse and Brigliano... no that wasn't quite right... played with a few more variations in my head... then I came up with it! Vanderhout and Brigagliano!! That was it!! What the hell is it??? I knew that this pair of goofy names meant something... there was a spark there *somewhere*... it was too poingnant in my head for it not to... but I just couldn't place it... what the *hell* is vanderhout and brigagliano?? Are they characters from a movie? Nope, that didn't seem right. Is it a brand of soap? Who the hell would name soap, vanderhout and brigagliano. Is it a species of flower...??? Day after day it grows on me... it pops into my head more and more often... this pair of funny names that obviously mean something. It is really starting to piss me off, I must find out what this means... |
| March 22, 2006 - Resetting my Treo |
|
The last time I had to hard reset a Palm device some years back, re-synching the device was a bit of a pain. After the initial sync, the core data restored fine but many of my applications had to be reinstalled and all of my personalization settings had to be redone. All in all, it was a ~2 hour process and required many multiple syncs before it was in its pre-crash state again.
But the Palm sync software has come a long way since then. Now, after hard-resetting my Treo, I synched and *everything* was restored to its original state on the first sync - no muss, no fuss. It was a truly painless process. |
| February 16, 2006 - Crime and Punishment |
| No, not *that* Crime and Punishment... this is a school project that my little cousin Khuzema and his friends made (he's the short guy that spends most of his time in this video lying on the ground, dead). It's about a 50MB download though quicktime seems to do a reasonable job of streaming it. |
| February 5, 2006 - Don't mess with Chuck Norris... |
|
...and a little bit surreal - Chuck Norris' response. |
| January 31, 2006 - Samuel Alito nominated |
Another Bloom County comic from ~20 years ago that is remarkably relevant for today...
|
| January 27, 2006 - What goes around, comes around |
This comic serously cracked me up. Not because it is particularly funny, but because it was written in the early 80s and yet, 20 years after it was written, it is just applicable as it was then...
And while we are making fun of the W, this picture has been circulating through email for a while now... on the off chance you haven't already seen it...
|
| January 25, 2006 - Don't look at me as if I'm some sort of freak! |
| I have never heard the term "Brangelina" until yesterday. Despite how common this term is in some circles (apparently), I feel like I have missed out on nothing... |
| January 9, 2006 - school colors |
|
I did my undergrad at Tufts University who had the misfortune of having school colors of brown and blue. Since Tufts quickly realized that this hideous color combination would not sell any clothes, Tufts branded clothing was sold in all sorts of colors. As a result, I certainly bought more than my fair share.
At Stanford, all they sell is red clothing! I walk in to the bookstore and feel like a Tabasco factory has exploded in hell! Seriously, how much red clothing can they expect someone to buy?? |
